Our annual SVP Mass will be celebrated on Friday, 25 September, at 7:30 pm. Light refreshments will be provided in the hall afterwards. This is a Mass of thanksgiving for all the support we receive from our parishioners throughout the year, so everyone is invited to attend. Our parish is also blessed with B-Attitudes, our team for young people, and Mini-Vinnies, our team for primary school pupils, so we are hoping for a really strong turnout. Please put the date in your diary and invite family, friends and neighbours. We are always looking for new members, and you never know who may feel called to join us.

The SVP Team would like to welcome everyone back from the summer holidays and wish everyone well as they return to their normal routines!

September can be busy and, looking at the SVP agenda, it is certainly shaping up that way. We kick off with our Bereavement Support Group drop-in session on Wednesday after the 10am Mass. The following weekend, our ‘Gifted’ shop will be open after the Masses. Later in the month, our annual SVP Mass of Thanksgiving will be held on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30pm. Everyone is welcome, so please bring your family and friends if you can.

It’s the time of year when daily school and work routines take a break for the summer holidays, but please remember that the SVP team is always around and on standby to help.

Our regular activities remain in place: the food bank is open every Saturday. Our fundraising shop, ‘Gifted’, will be open next weekend (Aug. 1-2). Our bereavement support group meets on the first Wednesday of the month (Aug. 5) at 10:30am. We also have other regular activities that may not be so visible, such as home and care home visits to the lonely and vulnerable.

The school holidays are just around the corner, so many young people will have time on their hands over the coming weeks. If you are between 11 and 18 years of age and are looking for a new hobby, new friends, or new experiences, consider joining our B-Attitudes team. The team meets monthly in the church hall. They come up with ideas for helping those in need in our community and then set about putting those ideas into action.

The four pillars of the SVP, globally as well as locally, are caring for the lonely, the sick, the poor and the imprisoned. Most SVP teams, known as ‘conferences’, are based around these four needs, and visiting the lonely and vulnerable in the community has traditionally been, and remains, one of the core activities of many conferences.

Your local conference is no different! In this spell of hot weather, please keep an eye on your vulnerable neighbours and please let them know that they are being thought about. Many of you do this already as part of your daily life, and this is brilliant. If any extra help is needed, though, and if you think that the SVP may be able to help out, then please do not hesitate to contact us. We’ll always do our best.
