Come join us!

Things are busy on a number of fronts for the SVP Team at the moment: Our B-Attitudes are now busy procuring items for the homeless after the amazing ‘Big Sleep-Out’ fundraiser, the food bank continues to see high numbers of clients, visits to the detention centres in support of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) are rising, and we are beginning to procure our Christmas stock for the Gifted shop.

This is just a flavour of what we are doing (see the noticeboard in the porch for the full story) and we always need to have new people coming on board. If that is you, then why not say ‘Hello’, via email, phone or in person, and we will explain how you can join us!

Successful sleep-out

Members of the B-Attitudes, the young persons SVP, spending the night outside in support of the homeless.

As we come to the close of World Homeless Week, we would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’, on behalf of the B-Attitudes! Last Saturday evening, a group of seven hardy B-Attitudes, safeguarded by three SVP adult members, slept under the stars in support of our sisters and brothers who have to face this situation on a nightly basis. Our parishioners, and people even beyond our parish, donated to this cause to the amazing sum of £1,839.00. Please accept our sincerest thank you for this continual support and please pray for all those who remain homeless, be it World Homeless Week or be it not. The B-Attitudes will now be focusing on turning these funds into real action and we will keep you posted on progress.

Homeless Week

World Homeless Week is Oct. 9 through Oct. 16 this year. To empathise with, and raise funds for, the homeless, a group of our B-Attitude volunteers (i.e. young SVP members) are sleeping out this Saturday evening, Oct. 8, within the church grounds. Your response to this fund-raising appeal has been humbling for all those involved and we wish to express our sincerest gratitude to all of you. Please say a prayer for all the homeless in our world and please use this coming week to raise awareness of this issue among your friends and family. If everyone does a little bit, this helps build God’s kingdom here on Earth, as it is in heaven.

Big Sleep-Out

Autumn is quickly approaching and winter lurks beyond. These seasons can be particularly difficult for our homeless sisters and brothers, but this year our fabulous B-Attitudes Team have decided to do something to help. On Saturday, Oct. 8, a group of these volunteers, safeguarded by a smaller group of adult SVP members, will be having their first ‘Big Sleep-Out’ in order to raise funds for homeless initiatives that they have in mind.

Just Giving page for Homelessness Sleep-Out

The B-Attitudes, the younger members of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society in our parish, are planning a sleep-out on Saturday, Oct. 8, to raise awareness and money for the homeless. They have also set up a Just Giving page. Please consider donating to this worthy cause!
