Our food bank continued to serve many families over the holidays, thanks to your generous donations and the support of organisations such as Hillingdon Foodbank and FareShare.

On Dec. 18, we had one of our busiest sessions, with more than 60 families served. As well as food, we gave out around 50 hampers with extra goodies donated by Hillingdon Foodbank and the Fassnidge Memorial Trust. We also distributed 120 Christmas stockings to the children. At the last minute, we received a generous donation of store gift cards, allowing us to further ease the pressure on these families.

The B-Attitudes would like to thank you for all of the stamps that have been dropped in the box in the church porch. It is wonderful to see so much support for the Royal National Institute of Blind People. Christmas is a great time for getting stamps, but we will keep the collection going and see where it takes us.

The SVP also held their first meeting of the year on Monday, where we welcomed a new member. If you would like to join our group, or if you come across anyone who needs help, please do not hesitate to contact us.

As I look back to what St Gregory’s SVP and B-Attitudes achieved last year while dealing with Covid restrictions, it makes me excited to see what we can do this year.

Our food bank has continued throughout the restrictions and we’re now adding a new service: The Disablement Association of Hillingdon (DASH) has launched a new project, funded by the Greater London Authority, to tackle poverty and hardship for people living in our borough. A representative will join us at the food bank on the first Saturday of the month, offering advice and support with issues such as benefits, debt management, immigration and housing difficulties.

Your SVP shop, Gifted, will be open after all masses this weekend. It is the last time we will be open this year and still have some Christmas items for sale, along with may other pieces.

Thanks you to all who have donated sweets for the children’s Christmas stockings. These will be handed out at the food bank this weekend. We hope to ensure that many children have a little extra under the tree this Christmas.

The SVP motto is “turn concern into action”, so this festive season we would like to turn that action into helping the blind. The SVP, along with the B-Attitudes, would like to collect stamps for the Royal National Institute for the Blind. This will make a difference to blind and partially sighted people.

As you receive cards and letters through the post, please collect the stamps and drop them into the special stamp box in the church porch or in the church hall. Please leave about 1 cm of envelope or packaging around the stamp. The SVP and B-Attitudes will then sort the stamps and send them off to the RNIB, where they will recycle them into much needed funds for their services.
